UMCSAWM Research

The advancement of water science and engineering is actively pursued at UMCSAWM through a dedicated and systematic approach based on it Three Pillars. Significant contributions are demonstrated by a consistent record of high-impact journal publications and influential conference proceedings that showcase cutting-edge research and innovation. A wide and diverse range of critical research areas is carefully explored, ensuring comprehensive coverage of key disciplines within the water sector. Among the fields in which research efforts are concentrated are Hydraulics, Water Resources Management, Climate Studies and Risks/Mitigation, Irrigation Engineering, Groundwater Studies, and Coastal and Port Engineering. Each of these domains is addressed with a strong commitment to academic rigour and practical relevance, ensuring that the knowledge generated can effectively contribute to solving pressing issues. In each focus area, innovative solutions are continuously developed and informed by both theoretical advancements and applied research methodologies.

Global challenges, such as climate change impacts, resource scarcity, and ecosystem degradation, are actively addressed through interdisciplinary research initiatives. At the same time, region-specific issues, particularly those affecting South Asian, national and local water systems, are given significant attention to ensure contextual relevance and applicability. A strong emphasis is placed on promoting sustainable and resilient water management practices to safeguard water resources for future generations and the participants are trained to address these at an early stage through their Problem Based Learning/Design Thinking (PBL/PBDT) mini-project exercises embedded in each module. Through these collective efforts, UMCSAWM remains at the forefront of fostering knowledge, driving innovation, and building capacity in the vital field of water science and engineering, ultimately benefiting communities both locally and globally.
