The UMCSAWM recently hosted a delegation of over 44 young professionals and experts from South Asia and Europe. The visit was a part of the International Summer School on Climate Change and Disaster Management, organised by the Consortium of South Asian Think Tanks (COSATT) and the Institute of National Security Studies (INSS), providing a platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration.
The visit to UMCSAWM focused on exploring engineering applications to address the pressing challenges of climate change and the water crisis in Sri Lanka. UMCSAWM faculty members delivered insightful presentations on the challenges and potential solutions related to these critical issues. The seminar provided a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange and collaboration among participants from diverse backgrounds. The participants gained valuable firsthand knowledge of engineering practices and technologies relevant to the region.
As the UMCSAWM, we extend our gratitude to Dr Nischal Pandey (Director of the Centre for South Asian Studies, Kathmandu and Convener of the Consortium of South Asian Think-Tanks) for their efforts in organising this event and Dr Nimal Wijayaratna and Dr Luminda Gunawardhana for their excellent moderation of the session. The presentations by Prof. Lalith Rajapakse, Dr Chamal Perera, Dr Chatura Dissanayake, and Mr Chamal Jayaminda offered valuable insights into Sri Lanka’s specific context related to climate change and its impact on the water sector.
