UMCSAWM Scholar Mr. Nur Mohammad Participates in “July Beyond Borders” Hosted by the High Commission of Bangladesh

Mr. Nur Mohammad, a SAF scholar at the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Centre for South Asia Water Management (UMCSAWM), University of Moratuwa, had the distinguished opportunity to participate in “July Beyond Borders,” a significant cultural and historical event organized by the High Commission of Bangladesh in Colombo on 5th August 2025.

The event marked the first anniversary of the July Uprising, a defining moment in Bangladesh’s contemporary history that symbolizes the nation’s continued pursuit of freedom, justice, and democratic transformation.

The commemorative program featured a vibrant exhibition of photographs, posters, and documentaries, alongside a children’s art competition, all of which highlighted the historical importance and public engagement surrounding the uprising. A discussion session brought together diplomats, academics, and community members to reflect on the broader regional implications of the movement. The day concluded with special prayers for peace and justice.

During the event, Mr. Nur had the honor of meeting His Excellency Mr. Andalib Elias, High Commissioner of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in Colombo. His Excellency warmly commended Mr. Nur’s academic progress and conveyed his appreciation to UMCSAWM and the South Asia Foundation (SAF) for their commitment to supporting international academic opportunities in Sri Lanka.

This engagement reflects UMCSAWM’s continued dedication to fostering regional collaboration, cultural exchange, and academic excellence, by actively encouraging student participation in cross-border dialogues and diplomatic platforms.
