Beneficiary Capacity building in the Use of GIS Tools for Water Infrastructure Planning and Management

Title: GIS for Dam Safety & Water Resources Planning Project

Course Brief: Short term training on the utilization of Geographic Information Systems for Water Infrastructure Development activities in the regions associated with the Mahaweli River Authority, Sri Lanka. The work involved case study examples and hands on training on techniques for groundwater and surface water planning, techniques for computing spatial averages of rainfall, land use, stakeholder involvements. The Tool used was ArcGIS with other Microsoft Office software. Raster and Vector models and using Model Builder for conceptual modelling for water resources applications was the main attraction.
